How to Install the Terminal Services Client in Windows 2000

Terminal services are a centralized computing architecture that lets users execute Windows-based applications on a remote Windows 2000 server. This step by step article describes how to install terminal services client in Windows 2000 and install terminal services using the application server mode.

If you going to create a client disk on Windows 2000, you must follow these steps:

  • Press the Start button at left corner of desktop > point to programs > point to administrative tools > press terminal services client creator.
  • In the create installation disk dialog box > click the version of the client disk you want to create > press ok.
  • Click ok after insert the disk. You will use this disk to install the terminal services client on a terminal services client computer.

How you going to install the 32-bit terminal services client

To install the 32-bit Terminal Services client, you follow these steps:

  • Insert the terminal services client disk into the floppy drive of the client computer.
  • Double-click the Setup.exe file on the terminal services client disk, click continue.
  • In the name and organization dialog box, type your name > press ok.
  • Confirm your name and organization information by clicking OK or click Change to make any corrections.
  • In the terminal services client setup dialog box, begin installation > click the large button.
  •  Click Yes. To install the client only for the current user > click no.
  • In the terminal services client setup dialog box > click OK to begin the installation.
  • Remove the first terminal services client disk > insert the second disk >click ok.
  • When you are notified that terminal services client setup has completed successfully > click ok.

Let’s begin enabling terminal services in application server mode in Windows 2000

To enable terminal services in application server mode on the domain controller performs the following procedures:

  • Go to Start > point to Settings > press Control Panel > double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Press Add/Remove Windows Components to start the Windows Components Wizard > Components list > to add or remove a component > click to select a check box > Select the terminal services check box > click Next.
  • Click details to see what is included in the component. You will see the two following sub-components > client creator files and enable terminal services
  • Press next to continue.
  • On the next screen, you are prompted to install Terminal Services to run in one of two modes: Remote Administration and Application Server.
  • Verify that application server mode is selected > click next.
  • Press the appropriate option to specify whether you want permissions to be compatible with Windows 2000 Users or with Terminal Server 4.0 Users.
  • In Terminal Services Licensing Setup > specify whether you want the license server to serve your entire enterprise or your domain/workgroup then provide the directory location for the database. Wait for the installation to finish, and then click Finish. In the Add/Remove Programs window > click Close.

 

Terminal services provide remote computers access to Windows-based programs that are running on the server. Terminal service having main benefit improved over slow network connections, easier to update software, reduced hardware costs and provides administrators the ability to remotely administer the server.
