Configuring a secure VPN connection

The VPN is a secure network connection that is used in public networks as Internet. With a VPN, connections across the public network can transfer data by using the routing infrastructure of the Internet but to the user data seems to travel over a dedicated private link. Now you can make secure VPN connections on client side or server side by following these tips that describes in this article.

 

VPN connection security at client side

  1. In first step you can right click my network on the desktop and press Properties.
  2. Right click on of your VPN client connections in the network connections window and click Properties.
  3. Press the networking tab, and then press on the Internet protocol (TCP/IP) entry and click the Properties button.
  4. On the General tab of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties dialog box, press the advanced button.
  5. Then on the General tab of the advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box, note the Use default gateway on remote network option.

VPN secure connections when client used ISA server

For client side VPN secure connection, you follow these steps:

  1. Very first time you open Internet explorer, Press the Tools menu and then press Internet options.
  2. Hit on the connections tab. In the dial-up and virtual private network settings list box, select the connection that represents the VPN connectoid. Then press the settings button.

  1. Then in the settings dialog box, place a checkmark in the use a proxy server for this connection checkbox.
  2. Enter the IP address of the internal interface of the proxy server in the address text box and 8080 in the Port text box. Press OK, and then press OK.

     How can you use VPN connection for Secure Internet Data Transfer

For secure data transfer on Internet, you follow these given step under below:

  1. First step is you open network connections. (Press start, press control panel, press network and Internet connections and then press network connections.)
  2. Then on network tasks, presses create a new connection and then click next.
  3. On the welcome to the New Connection Wizard page of the New Connection Wizard > press next.
  4. On the network connection type page, press Connect to the network at my workplace, and then click next.
  5. On the network connection page, press Virtual Private Network connection and then click next.
  6. On the connection name page, type the name of the connection or your company name, and then press next.
  7. When you are using a dial-up connection to an ISP to connect to the Internet the public network page is displayed. In automatically dial this initial connection, select the name of the connection used to dial your ISP, and then press next.
  8. Then on the VPN server selection page, type the domain name system (DNS) name or Internet protocol (IP) address of your company's VPN server on the Internet, and then press next.
  9. Completing the new connection wizard page, press Finish.
  10. A Connect dialog box is displayed in front of you. Type the user name and password to access your company's private network and then press connect.

 

Dynamic VPN connection security

For dynamic connections, the secure connection object includes a dynamic-key group and a dynamic-key connection.

Configure a dynamic key group

  1. First step is, you expand your system in iSeries Navigator > Network > IP Policies > Virtual Private Networking > Secure Connections.
  2. Right click by group and select new dynamic-Key Group.
  3. Press Help if you have questions about how complete a page or any of its fields.
  4. Press OK to save your changes.

Configure a dynamic key connection

  1. Expand your system in iSeries Navigator > Network > IP Policies > Virtual Private Networking > Secure Connections > By Group.
  2. In the left-pane of the iSeries Navigator window, right-click the dynamic-key group you created in part one and select new dynamic-key connection.
  3. Press help if you have questions about how complete a page or any of its fields.
  4. Press ok to save your changes.

 

VPN technology also permits a corporation to connect to its branch offices or to other companies over a public network such as the Internet while helping to maintain secure communications also.
