Troubleshooting Outlook Express

This article describes you how to troubleshoot outlook express errors and find the proper solution of those errors. In this section we give the most common errors and also their solution so you can easily solve your problems by the help of this article.

Common Outlook Express Errors and thier Solution                   

Error # 0x800CCC90/91
Reason:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server.

  1. Your Username was rejected. Account: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Server: 'pop3.norton.antivirus', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90

Solution:
This error message is caused by the fact that you have set an anti virus program, in this case Norton Antivirus, to scan all emails automatically.

Changing the settings within Outlook Express will not solve the issue. You need to go to Norton and change the settings there. To do this in Norton 2000 click here and for Norton 2001 click here

Error 0x800ccc90
There was a problem logging onto your mail server.

  1. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Server: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid user or password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90,
  2. Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Solution
The first step is to check your Outlook Express settings, making sure that the POP3 and SMTP servers are as in the screenshots and that your full user name and password are correct.

 

 

Error # MSOE Errors
Reason:
When you start Outlook Express or are receiving e-mail, you may get one of the following error messages:

  1. MSIMN caused an Invalid Page Fault in module unknown
  2. MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module MSOE.DLL at memory address
  3. MSIMN caused an Invalid Page Fault in module kernel32.dll

Solution:
The cause lies in incorrectly formatted rules which are applied before email is downloaded.

Error # 0x800c0131
Reason: When you start Outlook Express or try to send an e-mail message, you may get one of the following error messages:

  1. MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module Msoe.dll
  2. MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module "unknown"
  3. MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module Directdb.d

Solution:
The usual cause of this error is a missing or damaged folders.dbx file. Either that or it is using a read only attribute. To fix this bug:

  1. Click Start
  2. then Find
  3. then click Files or Folders.
  4. In the Named box, type folders.dbx.
  5. In the Look In box, click your main hard disk (this is usually drive C), and then click Find Now.
  6. Right-click the Folders.dbx file, and then click Rename.
  7. Type folders. Old , and click OK.
  8. Start Outlook Express again. This creates a new Folders.dbx file automatically.

Error # 0x800420CB
Reason: Message Could Not Be Opened From Outbox Folder, Account: pop.tiscali.co.uk.
               MailAccount',Server:'smtp.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol:SMTP,Port:25,Secure(SSL)
Solution:
The usual cause of this problem is an Outbox.dbx file which has become corrupted. To fix it,

  1. Click Tools
  2. then Accounts
  3. Click the Mail tab
  4. Click a duplicate mail account, and then click Remove. Keep doing this until all duplicated have been removed.
  5. Click Close

Still having problems with this error message? Try renaming the Outbox.dbx file, although this will permanently delete any messages still in the outbox.

  1. Close Outlook Express.
  2. Right-click the Start button on your PC's desktop
  3. click Find or Search
  4. Search for the Outbox.dbx file
  5. Right-click the file, click Delete, and then click Yes
  6. Start Outlook Express, and then try again
